Bill Perry of PerTel Communications had the opportunity to do opening remarks for the information packed Internet Symposium Hosted by Southern California Collector's Association. Attendees were mostly antique dealers and collectors that are interested in Internet commerce for their market. Ebay representatives were there too.

Survey says Internet interest on the Rise, People Section, Page 19 Although only 62 of the estimated 100 collectors, dealers, appraisers, estate liquidators and buyers surveyed at the recent Internet Symposium presented by the Southern California Collector's Association owned computers, as many as 41 had attempted to sell at an on-line auction. The brief survey, handed to registrants before the Symposium provided a small sampling of the impact of the Internet on the antique market. Has buying and selling on the Internet really gone from being the wave of the future to the reality of today?

Of those who had bought or sold anything on the Internet, 22 had sold 1-10 items, 16
had sold 10-50 items, 10 had sold 50-100 itens; only six had sold more than 100 items. The Internet may not have taken the market by storm yet, but the interest is clearly growing in this new medium of antique buying and selling. |
